Free Resources to Manage High Blood Pressure in Tennessee

High blood pressure (hypertension) affects nearly 40% of Tennesseans, increasing risks for heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. The good news? Free resources are available to help you take control, no insurance required.


1. Tennessee Department of Health – Chronic Disease Programs The TDH offers free blood pressure screenings, lifestyle coaching, and education through local health departments. Visit TDH’s Chronic Disease Page or call 615-741-3111 to find clinics near you.


2. CDC’s National Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Program Access free toolkits, diet plans, and stress management guides via the CDC’s hotline: 1-800-CDC-INFO (1-800-232-4636).


3. Local Health Department Screenings All 95 Tennessee counties provide free or low-cost blood pressure checks. Contact your county health department directly (e.g., Davidson County: 615-340-5616; Shelby County: 901-222-9000).


4. Tennessee Telehealth Network Free virtual consultations with nurses for hypertension management: 1-855-269-2787.


5. Prescription Assistance Programs If cost hinders medication access, apply for free or discounted drugs through Rx Outreach (1-800-769-3880) or TN Together (1-800-332-8615).
